The Lighthouse Adult Education Program offers GED, Pre-GED, multi-levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes in both English and Spanish to over 1,500 adult learners on an annual basis. Support services include counseling and educational, cultural and life skills development workshops. The program also includes an annual graduation ceremony and on-going student achievement recognition activities, class trips and other special events. All adults 18 and older are eligible for day, afternoon or evening classes. There are fall, spring and summer sessions. Our partners in this area of our Adult Education programs are Community College of Philadelphia, Lutheran Settlement House and the Center for Literacy. The Educational Opportunity Center offers free continuing educational assistance services to adult learners from their office located at The Lighthouse Lehigh Avenue Building.
The Adult Education Program also strives to address other important needs of adult learners in The Lighthouse service community by offering language arts classes, life skills, parenting and economic development educational programs and by building partnerships with other organizations in order to offer adults continuing life-long learning opportunities.
